Tattnall Square Academy issued the following announcement on Apr. 7.

Tattnall Square Academy is excited to announce that Michael Cheek ‘00 has been selected as the 2022 Joe Magnan Alumnus of the Year.

During his time at TSA, Michael was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. He was also an honor graduate and received the “Most Dependable” Senior Superlative award.

Michael received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of North Georgia. He received his Master’s Degree in Math and Science from Valdosta State University.

Upon graduating from the University of North Georgia in 2004, Michael began a career with Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He learned even more valuable life skills, including handling stressful situations and exhibiting integrity. After working at Enterprise for five years, Michael felt the call to become a teacher.

Michael is in his thirteenth year teaching math at Vickery Creek Middle School in Cumming, Georgia. He also serves as the head coach for the eighth-grade boys’ basketball team and the assistant coach for the seventh-grade boys’ basketball team. Michael and his wife, Gail, have been married for fifteen years and have four children (Mary Gail, 14, William, 12, Stephan, 9, and Nathan, 8).

Those foundational skills Michael learned while working at Enterprise ultimately paid off. In March, Cheek was named the Teacher of the Year for his school and the entire Forsyth County School System.

We look forward to the commencement services, where our 2022 Joe Magnan Alumnus of the Year, Michael Cheek, will address the Class of 2022.
