FOIA Request to Upson County Election Department Regarding Spring Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continued commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Macon Times have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent with the aim of obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
The information requested includes the full names of the candidates (first, middle, and last), the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. In addition to these details about each candidate's political aspirations, we have also asked for their contact information including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe this information is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. By making this request, we hope to ensure that our readers are well-informed about their choices in the upcoming election.
We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We await a response from the Upson County Election Department regarding this request.
