Fifteen white students were enrolled at Northeast High School in the 2024-25 school year, marking a 31.8% decrease from the prior year, data from the Georgia Department of Education show.
The school’s total enrollment for the 2024-25 school year stood at 782 students, with white students making up 2% of the overall population—the group remains among the smallest in the school.
Northeast High School is part of the Bibb County School District, which has its central office in Macon.
Of the district’s 34 schools, Rutland High School reported the highest number of white students enrolled in 2024-25, totaling 211 students.
Figures from the National Center for Education Statistics show that, statewide, Georgia public school enrollment was about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern in Georgia schools post-pandemic. In 2024, 20.7% of students missed 10% or more of school days, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the GaDOE initiated efforts involving a real-time attendance dashboard, public information campaign, and specialized aid for districts with higher need to encourage better attendance.
A bill passed by Georgia lawmakers in 2025 revised school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely because of absenteeism and updating reporting guidelines. The measure is also designed to connect students with programs that support achieving a diploma through alternative means.
In 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was approximately 14:1, better than the national average of 15:1.
