Reports from the Georgia Department of Education indicate that Southwest High School had 16 white students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, unchanged from the prior year.
Total enrollment at the school reached 846 students for 2024-25. White students represented 2% of the population, ranking as the second-smallest ethnic group in the school.
Southwest High School is part of the Bibb County School District, which is administered from its central office in Macon.

The National Center for Education Statistics shows that Georgia’s public schools serve a population that is about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
The state continues to grapple with chronic absenteeism, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024. In response, the Georgia Department of Education launched a comprehensive initiative that includes a new real-time attendance dashboard, awareness campaigns, and direct support to high-need districts.
Legislation passed in 2025 altered Georgia’s school attendance laws to prevent expulsions based solely on absenteeism, while mandating new reporting measures and integrating pathways for students to receive diplomas through alternative programs.
Data for 2026 from Public School Review places Georgia’s average student-teacher ratio at about 14:1, while the national average is 15:1.
