Twiggs County High School sees 2 Asian students enrolled for 2024-25

According to the Georgia Department of Education, Twiggs County High School recorded two Asian students enrolled in the 2024-25 school year, matching its total from the prior year.

Total student enrollment at Twiggs County High School reached 229 for 2024-25. Asian students represented 1% of the student population, which made them one of the school’s smallest demographic groups.

The campus is part of Twiggs County School District, which operates with a central office based in Jeffersonville.

Out of the three campuses that make up Twiggs County School District, Jeffersonville Elementary School had the largest enrollment of Asian students for the 2024-25 school year, with three.

Statewide, Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report shows. Elementary grades comprised the highest enrollment with 787,206 students (45.9%), while 388,733 were enrolled in middle school (22.7%), and high school enrollment totaled 539,092 (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism continues as a significant challenge across Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students absent for at least 10% of school days in 2024, data from the Georgia Department of Education indicates. To combat this issue, the GaDOE has started a new statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, an awareness campaign, and focused support for districts with high needs to encourage regular attendance.

In 2025, legislators in Georgia updated school attendance laws to prohibit expulsions solely for absenteeism. The legislative changes also require additional reporting and work in tandem with programs designed to help students graduate through alternative routes.

For 2026, Georgia maintained an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
