T.G. Scott Elementary School issued the following announcement. 

At a March 31, 2022 called meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Mrs. Tammy Marion to Mary Persons High School Principal effective June 13, 2022.  Mrs. Marion is in her 12th year as MPHS Assistant Principal and has been in education for 28 years.  She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Specialist’s Degree in Education. Mrs. Marion is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL), and was the 2020 Georgia State Assistant Principal of the Year.  She says “I have been a part of this amazing school environment for twelve years, and I cannot begin to tell you how honored I am to become the next principal.”  She went on to say “I am committed to Mary Persons High School, to my profession, and to our students and staff, as well as to this community.”  Mrs. Marion succeeds Dr. Jim Finch who was recently promoted to Assistant Superintendent for Personnel & Operations. 

The Board of Education also approved the appointment of Mrs. Christina Chapman to Katherine .B. Sutton Elementary School Principal effective June 13, 2022.  Mrs. Chapman is in her 3rd year as Assistant Principal at Monroe County Middle School and has been in education for 16 years.  Mrs. Chapman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood/Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Specialist’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership.  She has participated in a number of leadership development programs including the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement. Mrs. Chapman says “I am honored to be selected as principal of Katherine B. Sutton Elementary School.  I am looking forward to this journey and the future experiences I will have the opportunity to be a part of with the amazing staff and students I am joining.”  Mrs. Chapman will follow Dr. Becky Brown who was recently promoted to Director of Assessment, Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE), and Federal Programs.

In recommending Marion and Chapman to their positions, Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman said, “We are excited about our new principals and the energy and expertise they will bring to the staff, students, and stakeholders at their respective schools.”
