Stratford Academy issued the following announcement on Oct. 21. 

The light of Walker Bethune continues to shine as he has been named one of two Stratford Academy National Merit Commended Scholars. Walker is a member of the senior class and the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Bethune of Macon. He has been recognized as a National AP Scholar with Distinction and a Georgia Governor’s Honors Program Finalist Alternate in Mechanical Design Engineering in 2021. Walker was elected to leadership positions such as class president in grades nine through eleven and student body president in grade 12. He was the recipient of the Josephine Barker Lamb Scholarship in 2021 as well as the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, Wofford Scholar, and Presbyterian Junior Fellow. In addition, this past spring, he was named the school’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Top AP US History Student. He was also the founder and president of Stratford’s beloved Cornhole Club. As a National Merit Commended Scholar, Walker scored in the top 3-4% of students on the PSAT.
