FOIA Request Sent to Crawford County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Crawford County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Macon Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Crawford County Election Department. The request was made under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., with a preference for an electronic format response.

Our inquiry is centered around understanding the methods employed by the department in counting votes during elections. Specifically, we requested details about whether vote counting is done manually or through other means. If manual counting is used, we asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that this information will help us disseminate important news regarding the election process in Crawford County accurately and effectively.

We have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We are awaiting a response from the Crawford County Election Department and will update our readers as soon as more information becomes available.
