Dr. Warren Hutchings Receives Atrium Health Excellence in Diversity Award

Dr. Warren Hutchings, a family medicine physician at Atrium Health Navicent Primary Care West Macon, has been named the recipient of Atrium Health’s 2022 Excellence in Diversity Award. The award recognizes one Atrium Health teammate annually for advancing diversity across the health system and in the community, and for boldly blazing a trail for others to follow.

Hutchings, a Macon native, recruits pre-medical students from underrepresented populations through his instrumental role in supporting the Student National Medical Association - Minority Association of Premedical Students at Mercer University. Atrium Health Navicent is a training partner for the medical school where Hutchings is an assistant professor of family medicine. A faculty advisor since 2011, he has been integral in supporting networking opportunities for current and prospective minority medical students to interact with practicing physicians.

He also advocates for minority physicians through his work with the Middle Georgia Medical Society and on the state level as he visits legislators to advocate for physician education and issues affecting minority physicians. On occasion, he’s taken students and medical residents along on his trips to the state capital.

“Recruiting and supporting pre-medical students and physicians from underrepresented populations is integral to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion and to providing equitable access to high quality health care,” said Atrium Health Navicent President and CEO Delvecchio “Congratulations to Dr. Hutchings on this much-deserved recognition, and thank you for all you do to improve health and wellness, elevate hope and advance healing FOR ALL.”

In addition to treating patients, Hutchings routinely speaks to local high school and college students to nurture their interest in health careers and encourages young physicians to become more involved in organized medicine as physician leaders.
