Atrium Health Navicent issued the following announcement on Apr. 18.

Today the Hill family from Macon won money for college for its newest member, Prosper, who was born at 5:17 a.m. at Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center. For the 6th year, Atrium Health Navicent and the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan welcomed the hospital’s first “Tax Day” baby with a college savings contribution.

“I feel blessed. I was not expecting it at all. I think it’s the definition of his name. It’s a great thing,” said Jessica Hill, Prosper’s mother.

The hospital and the state’s Path2College plan partner each year to raise awareness about the importance of saving for college and financial planning, along with the advantages of saving in the Path2College 529 Plan.

“It’s an honor to be among the first to welcome baby Prosper into the world and to celebrate with his family. We’re proud to partner with the Path2College 529 Plan to provide him with a head start on saving for college or career training,” said Atrium Health Navicent President and CEO Delvecchio Finley. “The future is full of opportunities, for all of us, but especially for our community’s youth. Nurturing them and encouraging education is just another way that Atrium Health Navicent is improving our community’s health and wellness, elevating hope and advancing healing for all.”

“We are excited to help Prosper jump-start his college savings with this contribution, and we hope that many more families with young children will use tax time to begin planning for their children’s continued education,” said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley.

Prosper isn’t the only baby who can win this year. Newborns across the state also have a chance to win money for college through the Path2College Newborn Sweepstakes. One baby born in Georgia this year will win a $5,529 college savings contribution. The Path2College 529 Plan will also award $1,529 to the hospital where the Newborn Sweepstakes winner is born.
