Middle Georgia State University issued the following announcement on Feb.15.
Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is introducing a graduate certificate in Strategic Business Communication in fall 2022.
The 15-credit-hour online program is designed to develop students’ skills in public relations, marketing, advertising, and social media communication.
“We created this certificate program primarily for students who want additional academic credentials to further their professional growth, but they’re not quite ready to commit to a full graduate program,” said Dr. Andre Nicholson, MGA’s graduate program coordinator for the Master of Arts in Public Relations, a fully online degree the University launched this spring.
“The great thing about the certificate is that the courses are ‘stackable,’” Nicholson said. “That means all five classes in the certificate program would count toward the Master of Arts in Public Relations if a student decided to continue on toward the graduate degree.”
The certificate program coursework is designed to prepare students to take an active role in any industry in the state and provide organizations with creative, logical, and deliberate communication strategies. Jobs in fields like public relations are expected to grow in Georgia through 2028.
Coursework covers marketing communication, data storytelling, public relations writing and research, crisis communication, social media communication and advertising. Students will research, analyze, and evaluate the latest social media environments to write, create, and publish for a variety of audiences.
They also will act as data-driven, strategic visual storytellers for optimal presentation of trends, patterns, and insights in business communication.
