City of Forsyth issued the following announcement on Feb. 9.

The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is proud to announce the City of Forsyth received a grant check in the amount of $6,866.79 to be used towards the purchase of safety items. The city plans to use the grant funds to purchase safety vests, a safety barricade system, rain parkas & warming suits, flame resistant jackets, and various other safety items.

The Safety and Liability Management Grant Program is made available to members of GMA’s property and liability insurance program, the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency (GIRMA), and GMA’s workers’ compensation insurance program, the GMA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurance Fund (GMA WCSIF).

To be eligible for the grant, the city had to meet specific requirements associated with safety and loss control efforts & be a part of at least one of GMA’s programs mentioned above.  The City of Forsyth, being a member of GMA’s worker’s compensation program, has met all requirements to receive these grant funds.

The GMA Safety and Liability Management Grant program was introduced in 2000 to provide financial support to aid member cities in improving employee safety and liability loss control endeavors. The funds can be used for the purchase of training services or equipment that reduce the probability of claims. Since inception of the program, hundreds of cities have collectively received several million dollars to help fund the purchase of various safety items such as bulletproof vests, training videos, confined space entry equipment, reflective safety vests, fire department turnout gear and camera systems for police departments.

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, education, insurance and employee benefits, financing, and consulting services to more than 500 member cities.
