Stratford Academy issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.
Participating for the first time in the annual Light More Homes programming contest, Stratford Academy took home the first and second place awards for high school, and all awards for middle school. The lightshow can be viewed at Mercer Village, on Montpelier Avenue every evening until January. Tune your radio to 92.7FM and listen to the music and watch the lights! This year, the lights extend down Stadium Drive with a new Candy Cane Lane. You will also hear the students’ names announced and their award for each bit of programming.
The students met with Mercer Computer Science Department chair Dr. Bob Allen, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity manager Ivey Hall, and engineer Chuck Hammock, partner at Andrews, Hammock and Powell to learn about the contest and about the specialized software used to control the lights. The students then worked after school for two weeks in Mr. McCue’s room to build their projects, sharing with each other what they learned while designing their contest entry.
