COUNTY OF BIBB: Dean Baldwin Painting celebrates Grand Opening of Macon-Bibb Facility

Zt

County of Bibb issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.

From the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority:

Dean Baldwin Painting celebrated the grand opening of their newest facility with a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning. The 165,000 square foot facility is Dean Baldwin Painting’s fourth facility and first in Georgia.  The site is home to four new hangars at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

“It’s a great day in Macon-Bibb County as we officially welcome Dean Baldwin Painting to our community,” says Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller. “They chose to be part of Team Macon-Bibb because they saw all that our area and our airport offered and how they could build on that potential. We are looking forward to many years of them being part of this community.”

The facility took 15 months to build. Other Dean Baldwin Painting facilities began with existing hangars that required enlarging and converting to an aircraft painting facility. This location was a greenfield new build from the ground up, adjacent to the aircraft taxiway at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

“2020 was a very bad year for us, no question,” said Barbara Baldwin-McNulty, President and CEO of Dean Baldwin Painting. “I am an optimist, and I knew the economy would eventually turn around and we were going to be ready when it did.”

The facility is designed for aircraft painting but also has a material warehouse, administration building, air filtration systems and a water treatment processing plant. Having four separate hangars, the facility can process four aircraft simultaneously. Three hangars will accommodate aircraft as large as the A321 or C-130J sized aircraft. The fourth hangar will accommodate a B767 or C-17 aircraft sized aircraft. Operations began June 2021 with the induction of the first aircraft, a B767-300 freighter aircraft owned by Cargo Aircraft Management, a subsidiary of ATSG (Air Transport Services Group).

“It was a point of pride, and a culmination of years of collaborative work for us to watch the new hangars come out of the ground at Middle Georgia Regional Airport,” said Robby Fountain, Chairman of the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority. “The partnership between Dean Baldwin Painting and the middle Georgia community has been nothing short of stellar. We are proud to officially welcome them to this community and to be able to continue making opportunities for large industries across Macon-Bibb County every day.”
