Wesleyan College issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.

Wesleyan College is one of the 143 best colleges in the Southeast according to The Princeton Review’s "2022 Best Colleges: Region-by-Region" website.

The Princeton Review salutes a total of only 654 colleges which constitute just 23% of the nation's four-year colleges. The schools are selected primarily for their excellent academics but The Review also factors in what students report about their campus experiences.

"Wesleyan is proud to appear on The Princeton Review's ranking lists again this year. As an industry leader in studying college and university campuses, students and their parents can feel assured and respect their stamp of approval. Our marketing and recruiting efforts are enhanced by our ranking in The Princeton Review," said Clinton G. Hobbs, vice president for strategic enrollment at Wesleyan College.

The Princeton Review survey asks students to rate their colleges on dozens of issues and to answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. Comments from surveyed students are quoted in the school profiles on The Princeton Review website. Wesleyan students compliment the "academic rigor, supportive atmosphere, diverse student body, nice facilities, and excellent classroom environment." Professors and academics receive the most praise. "Excellent," "open-minded" professors teach "challenging" material, and "encourage critical thinking and looking at things from different perspectives."

Students also commented that Wesleyan students "are all very different from places all over the world." "The great international population leads to diverse religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds." They are different "in terms of political views, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation."

Founded in 1836 as the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women and shaped by Methodist values, Wesleyan provides students an academically challenging and relevant liberal arts education. The College offers 24 majors, 36 minors, and 8 pre-professional programs. Undergraduate students can earn a bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, or a bachelor of science in nursing degrees. As members of the USA South Athletic Conference, Wesleyan is home to six NCAA Division III sports - basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball - and competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in both hunt seat and western. The team also competes in the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA).
