County of Bibb issued the following announcement on July 15.

Many of us have the luxury of eating out at a nice restaurant occasionally, but for many in our community, that is hardly ever an option. Owner of Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails, Chelsea Hughes, believes everyone should have the opportunity to eat a hot and tasty meal, especially those at the Brookdale Resource Center.

On Wednesday, July 14, Hughes and Kinjo staff took 115 rice bowls, with vegetables and different types of protein, to guests at the Center. This was the second time Kinjo has made meals to bring to Brookdale guests.

“I feel like business owners or just anyone should try to move the needle on the perception of homelessness,” said Hughes. “It’s kind of our part, since we’re blessed with so much food and so many incredible customers, to give back to people who don’t have the luxury of dining in our dining room.”

“This makes a huge difference to residents that are staying here for sure,” says Brookdale Resource Center Interim Director Alison Bender. “The community coming out and being a part of everything that we do here, we wouldn’t be able to be as successful as we are.”

Kinjo customers have helped make these hot meals happen for people at Brookdale. When dining at Kinjo, customers get the opportunity to donate $8 that goes towards buying a bowl for Brookdale guests. Kinjo is also selling t-shirts for $25, with 100% of the profit going to the Brookdale Resource Center.
