Seven schools win first basketball state titles at 2026 GHSA championships

The Georgia High School Association announced on March 15 the results of the 2026 GHSA / Dr. Ralph Swearngin Basketball State Championships, which took place from March 11 to March 14 at the Macon Centreplex. Seven schools—Darlington, Heritage-Catoosa, St. Pius, Creekview, East Laurens, Rabun County and North Paulding—won their first-ever basketball state championships.

The event highlighted achievements across multiple divisions for both boys’ and girls’ teams. In the girls’ categories, champions included Hebron Christian (Private), East Laurens (1A Division 1), Wilcox County (1A Division 2), Murray County (2A), Heritage-Catoosa (3A), Marist (4A), Creekview (5A) and North Paulding (6A). Boys’ champions were Darlington (Private), Rabun County (1A Division 1), Clinch County (1A Division 2), Morgan County (2A), Cross Creek (3A), St. Pius X (4A), Alexander (5A) and Wheeler (6A). Houston County won in the AAASP Wheelchair division.

Individual contests also took place during Championship Week. Trace Adcock of Rabun County won the BSN Sports Boys’ 3-Point Contest, Madison Bennett of Trinity Christian won for Girls, and Ben Holland & Karina Barton of Walton took first in the Coed category. Cordell Simmons from Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe was named Slam Dunk winner.

Organizers expressed appreciation to all groups involved in making the four-day event possible, including Macon Centreplex staff, game officials, media partners such as Georgia Public Broadcasting, sponsors like Breda Pest Management and BSN Sports, as well as school communities for their support.
