Lamar County Elementary School admitted 38 multiracial students for the 2024-25 school year, representing a 5.6% increase from the prior year, reports the Georgia Department of Education.

Total student enrollment at Lamar County Elementary reached 647 for 2024-25. Multiracial students accounted for 6% of the population, making them the school’s third-largest demographic group.

The school operates within the Lamar County School District, based in Barnesville.

Among the district’s four schools, Lamar County Primary School reported the highest number of multiracial students in 2024-25, enrolling 43 students in this group.

The National Center for Education Statistics outlined Georgia’s statewide public school demographics as approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools following the pandemic; data from the Georgia Department of Education indicated 20.7% of students missed at least 10% of school days in 2024. To address this, GaDOE introduced a statewide response featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, public outreach initiatives, and tailored assistance for high-need districts to improve attendance rates.

Lawmakers in Georgia updated school attendance laws in 2025, passing legislation to prevent expulsions solely for absenteeism. The new law includes additional reporting demands and supports efforts to provide alternative diploma pathways.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, outperforming the national ratio of 15:1.
