Monroe County Commissioners commemorated March 7, 2023 as “Mary Persons Game Day Cheerleading Squad Appreciation Day” in honor of the first MP athletic team to win back-to-back state championships.

Monroe County Commission Chairman Greg Tapley read aloud on Tuesday, March 7 a proclamation celebrating the achievements of the MP Game Day Cheerleading Squad, which captured its second straight Class AAA/AAAA state title at Columbus State University on Feb. 24.

MP team members honored on Tuesday included: Ellie Adams, Aleah Bailey, Journey Brantley, Gracie Butler, Addie Cobb, Olivia Elder, Maddie Emami, Carter Fletcher, Emily Grant, Amelia James, Sidney McCowell, Jayla McHomes, Ava Nelson, Emma Phelan, Molly Rivers, Riley Roberts, Ethan Robinson (mascot), Maycie Smith, Emmy Starr, Mary Michael Tane, Hayden Tonn, Walker Tonn, and Addison Winget and coaches Hannah Mock, Stefani Simmons, and Kyle Ward.
