Middle Georgia State University (MGA) has been named a 2025 “Great College to Work For,” joining 75 other institutions across the United States in receiving this distinction. The announcement was made on September 19 by The Chronicle of Higher Education and GreatCollegesList.com, following a national survey that included feedback from employees at 199 colleges and universities.
MGA also earned the status of “Honor Roll Institution” for being recognized in nine out of ten possible categories. This achievement is considered rare among medium-sized schools with enrollments between 3,000 and 9,999 students.
The university was recognized for its performance in job satisfaction and support, compensation and benefits, professional development, mission and pride, supervisor or department chair effectiveness, confidence in senior leadership, faculty and staff well-being, shared governance, and faculty experience.
Dr. Christopher Blake, president of MGA, said: “This recognition affirms what we strive for every day at Middle Georgia State University, which is to live out our core values of stewardship, engagement, adaptability, and learning. Earning a place among the ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ is not simply about the honor itself, but about the culture we build together as faculty and staff in service to our students and communities. At MGA, we are committed to ensuring that our workplace reflects the same excellence and spirit of care that we seek to instill in our graduates.”
The “Great Colleges to Work For” program is known as one of the most respected workplace-recognition initiatives within higher education. Employee surveys are a key part of determining results; these responses are analyzed by ModernThink, a consulting firm specializing in human capital strategies.
Middle Georgia State University serves more than 8,700 students across campuses located in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman (home to Georgia’s flagship School of Aviation), Warner Robins as well as online programs. The institution offers over 70 areas of study leading to doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s degrees along with selected associate degrees and certificates.
