Representatives from two local organizations will speak at the Rep the Rights Rally on Tuesday, October 25. The rally starts at 12 p.m. on the Porter Auditorium lawn. Speeches will be given by Morgan Allison, Co-Founder of Middle GA for Choice and Josh Billings, Strategist and organizer for Georgia’s Democratic Party.
Wesleyan College’s Power and Protest Society (PAPS) president and student leader Brandi Underwood will introduce the speakers. President Meaghan Blight of Wesleyan College will offer closing remarks.
Meet the speakers
Morgan Allison is the Co-Founder of the grassroots organization Middle Georgia for Choice based here in Macon. Allison has lived in Macon for almost four years and says she prides herself in being a leader and a voice for those who cannot use theirs.
“We protested, we marched, we cried, we yelled, and we vowed never to quit. We are an all-inclusive organization and are not only fighting for reproductive rights but human rights as a whole. We believe in the rights of all BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled peoples, incarcerated peoples, indigenous peoples, immigrants, and cisgendered, able-bodied people to exist in a society where they can feel safe and live happily. We want to make Georgia a place where no matter who you are, what you believe in, or who you want to be, you have the freedom to do so. Reproductive justice is what we are currently striving for, so fighting against voter suppression to get everyone who is legally eligible to vote to the polls this November, is imperative to us. Reproductive Rights are on the ballot this year, and we won’t go back.”
Josh Billings is a strategist and organizer for Georgia’s Democratic Party. After growing up in Columbus, Ohio, he graduated from Florida Southern College in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Pre Law. Since coming to Macon 2 years ago, he has continued his legal studies at Mercer University and recently joined Bibb County’s Democratic Committee. Currently, his goal is to collaborate with voters, candidates, and elected officials to ensure that rights like reproductive freedom, voting access, and civil rights are protected this November.
