The Leadership Macon Class of 2026 began its program with a two-day retreat, bringing together participants for the first time as a cohort. The event focused on relationship-building, leadership development, and reinforcing a commitment to the Macon and Bibb County community.

During the retreat, class members met each other, started building trust, and learned about the expectations of the program. Interactive sessions and team-based activities helped participants form connections that will continue throughout the year.

Leadership Macon Retreat Advisors Sarah Schanck, Carrie Ingoldsby, and Charity Lucas King guided the group through this initial milestone. Their involvement was described as ensuring “a retreat experience that balanced structure, reflection, and engagement while creating space for the class to connect authentically.”

The program aims to develop leaders who are informed, connected, and engaged in their communities. This year’s class includes professionals from various industries who want to learn more about their community and contribute to its future.

A list of class members includes representatives from organizations such as Arise Nation Church & Cirrus Academy Charter School, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Cox Communication, Emory Healthcare, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. UNITED, Mercer University School of Law, Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority, Greater Macon Chamber among others.

The Leadership Macon Advisory Board for 2026 was also announced. The board consists of alumni who will help design class days and support new participants during the year. “Throughout the year, advisory board members will design engaging class days, help welcome and support the new class, and strengthen connections across the Leadership Macon alumni community,” according to a statement from organizers.

Chair Alison Bender is joined by Legacy Advisor Jake Hall along with several committee leads focusing on areas such as healthcare, housing, tourism arts & culture, agriculture, economic development (https://www.maconchamber.com/), education (https://www.maconchamber.com/), local government (https://www.maconchamber.com/), and alumni programs.

Leadership Macon’s mission aligns with broader efforts in workforce development and community engagement in Macon County. The Macon County Chamber of Commerce supports these goals by advancing economic vitality through networking opportunities and resources for local businesses. The chamber has served businesses across Macon County for over a century (https://www.maconchamber.com/) by organizing events that strengthen business ties within the region.
