In the 2024-25 academic year, Lamar County Elementary School registered 388 white students—an 8.7% increase over the prior year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education show.

Total enrollment at Lamar County Elementary School reached 647 for 2024-25. White students represented 60% of all students, making them the largest demographic group at the school.

The school operates under the Lamar County School District, whose central office is in Barnesville.

Among all four schools in the district, Lamar County High School had the highest number of white students enrolled in 2024-25, totaling 461 students.

Data from the National Center for Education Statistics indicated that the racial and ethnic breakdown of Georgia’s public school population is roughly 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism remains a significant concern across Georgia schools after the pandemic, with the Georgia Department of Education reporting that 20.7% of students were absent for at least 10% of school days in 2024. To address this, GaDOE introduced a statewide plan with real-time tracking, a public engagement campaign, and tailored resources for high-need school districts.

In 2025, an updated school attendance law passed by Georgia legislators prohibited expulsions based solely on absenteeism. Additional measures include expanded reporting rules and new supports for earning diplomas through alternative programs.

By 2026, Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, outperforming the national figure of 15:1.
