Harborview Health Systems Thomaston serves most residents among Upson County nursing homes in Q1

Harborview Health Systems Thomaston was identified as the largest nursing home in Upson County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.

The facility offered 119 total beds — 18 more than the Upson County average for that quarter. The center provided care for an average of 103.6 residents over the period.

The overall CMS rating for Harborview Health Systems Thomaston was 3 out of 5, exceeding the Georgia nursing home average of 2.7.

Providence Healthcare ranked as the county’s second largest nursing home with 110 beds available, followed by Riverside Health and Rehabilitation with 73 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Harborview Health Systems Thomaston reported zero fines or penalties.

There were two for-profit nursing homes established in Upson County, Georgia.

Recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population continues to rise while the younger population shrinks. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older jumped by 13%, and those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The senior population in the U.S. has expanded rapidly in the last one hundred years, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A study from 2021 estimates nearly half of this growing group—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and support, with more than one-third possibly requiring nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
