The facility is designated as a for-profit nursing home.

During that timeframe, the nursing home achieved an overall CMS rating of three, surpassing Georgia’s state nursing home average of 2.7. CMS scores assess nursing homes on key criteria, including results of health inspections, staffing, and resident care quality.

Data indicates Harborview Health Systems Thomaston cared for an average of 103.6 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, with a total of 119 beds available. The nursing facility currently operates independently from any hospital.

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Harborview Health Systems Thomaston had not incurred any fines or penalties.

Of all nursing homes in Upson County, Georgia, two were for-profit in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population is rising, while the number of younger residents is declining. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older saw a 13% increase, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population has seen substantial growth over the past 100 years, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A study from 2021 found that almost half in this age group—about 28 million—may need long-term services and supports. It also projects that more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
