Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.
Voters in Macon-Bibb County passed the OLOST in a landslide on Tuesday, November 2. The final vote was 8,668 in favor out of 10,757 votes, or 80.58%.
“We couldn’t do this without great business partners like [the Chamber],” said Mayor Lester Miller.
The passing of the OLOST will mean that property taxes could be rolled back up to 40% beginning in 2023, and additional funds can be invested into public safety measures. Both topics have been major points of concern for our members in recent years.
“…this is a monumental opportunity for the citizens in Macon-Bibb. We can elevate economic development. We can preserve and create job opportunities. We can create capital investments, and we can also support public safety and very important infrastructure needs for our community,” said Yvonne Williams, president and CEO of the Chamber.
