GORDON STATE COLLEGE: GSC Names Welch-Armstead Dean of Enrollment Services and Blankenship Director of Admissions

Gordon State College issued the following announcement on Aug. 30. 

Gordon State College names Dr. April Welch-Armstead as Dean of Enrollment Services and Bart Blankenship as Director of Admissions.

Welch-Armstead began at GSC on August 16, with over 23 years of experience in higher education and project management. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from West Georgia College, a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Education from Jacksonville State University and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Welch-Armstead said, “I am honored to serve in this new role and to become a member of the Gordon State College family.”

Welch-Armstead held titles of campus manager, director of admissions, director of student affairs and an adjunct instructor at Georgia Northwestern Technical College for over 11 years.

From 2018 to 2021, Welch-Armstead served as Dean of Students and Equity (Title IX) Coordinator at West Georgia Technical College. At Georgia Military College, Welch-Armstead was a senior project manager in economic development, dean of students, assistant executive director and interim executive director.

Welch-Armstead brings GSC a wealth of experience in enrollment and project management, student discipline and judicial hearings.

After spending 18 years at Eastern Kentucky University in various admissions roles, Blankenship most recently served as the director of admissions at Warner University for three years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Art from Berea College and a Master of Science in Safety, Security & Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University.

Blankenship will focus on developing short and long-term strategic goals for recruitment and enrollment, in alignment with divisional and college-wide strategic plans. He will be relocating from Florida and join GSC on September 7.

Blankenship said, “I am looking forward to serving in this capacity as the Director of Admissions and making a difference at Gordon State College.”
