Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation was identified as Monroe County’s largest nursing home for the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show.

The facility reported 121 available beds, exceeding the county average by 29 as of the first quarter of 2026. On average, 69.2 residents were assisted during this timeframe.

The CMS awarded Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation an overall rating of 2 out of 5, below Georgia’s statewide nursing home average of 2.7.

Pruitthealth – Monroe was the county’s second largest facility in the quarter, with 83 beds, and Pruitthealth – Forsyth held third, offering 72 beds.

Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation had accrued $16,800 in fines over three incidents and faced three penalties during the period ending in the first quarter of 2026.

Monroe County, Georgia, had only one non-profit nursing home at the start of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the number of older adults continues to rise, while younger age groups decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, as the population under 18 dropped 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult population has expanded significantly, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and support, with more than a third likely to require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
