Atrium Health Navicent announced on May 28 the expansion of its emergency medical services through upgrades to its 911 communications infrastructure, the opening of a new ambulance headquarters, and the introduction of pre-hospital blood transfusions in ambulances.
The health system invested nearly $400,000 to modernize its EMS Communications Center. These improvements are designed to help Atrium Health Navicent EMS receive, manage, and process emergency calls more quickly and reliably. The updated system features improved call routing and enhanced stability, which will allow teams to respond effectively even during high call volumes or system disruptions. In addition, a new ambulance headquarters has opened on Riverside Drive near the Interstate 75 Pierce Avenue exit with the goal of expediting response times. Ambulances now carry blood for pre-hospital transfusions to assist patients experiencing traumatic injuries or significant blood loss.
“These improvements reflect Atrium Health’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Atrium Health Georgia Area President Delvecchio Finley. “By investing in our EMS program, we’re ensuring care is provided faster and at a higher quality when seconds matter. Every improvement we make is focused on saving lives and delivering the highest level of care across central and south Georgia.”
Atrium Health Navicent EMS responds to thousands of 911 calls each year in Macon-Bibb County as well as Baldwin, Jones, Treutlen, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties. Bud Owens, Georgia area vice president of mobile medicine and EMS for Advocate Health—which includes Atrium Health Navicent—said, “For 125 years, our EMS teams have been a trusted lifeline for families across central and south Georgia. These enhancements position our EMS teams to deliver faster, more advanced care while ensuring we are prepared to meet the growing needs of the communities we serve.”
In addition to responding to emergencies, Atrium Health Navicent EMS provides non-emergency transportation services—including specialty medical transport for neonatal and pediatric intensive care patients—as well as support for community events along with training programs.
